Heists in the Dark

Plan heists on the fly! Scoundrels need work, and there are plenty of dangerous opportunities in the shadowed city of Duskwall. Strike a balance as you take inspiration from the people, places, heist types, and complications in the deck but interpret them to fit your players and your game table. These cards have a custom desgin so you can lay them out and see an adventure emerge as they connect. Every opportunity is a problem in disguise, and vice versa!

You can use the cards to sketch out a few possible heists ahead of the session. You can also pull cards out in play to get ideas for people, places, objectives, and complications. The deck gives you ideas to deepen the texture of your game world without requiring you to study an adventure someone else wrote.

The people in this deck have enough wealth and power to hire a crew of criminals, or to be worth targeting by rivals who can afford the scoundrels' services. The heists are objectives, rather than treasures. A connected client will hire a crew to do all sorts of things to a well-defended target; there are fifty ideas included.

Now you can prepare opportunities for your crew to consider, with a handful of cards. No more wasted preparation, and no more scrambling to figure out what jobs are on offer when they go looking. The Heist Deck has just enough information to give you a starting point and some complications, and you interpret the results. Your players will have ideas for how to take on the challenge, and away they go!

One side has a heist and a complication, the other side has a person and a place. You can draw two people and decide which is the client and which is the target. Draw two or three heist cards, pick one to be the objective and one or more to add complications. Draw two or three locations; you can assign a place to meet or start, a place to conduct the heist, and a place to rendezvous afterwards. Since the structure is modular, add more or less people, places, objectives and complications to suit your needs. If one card doesn't inspire you, flip it over to use another way or draw another.

The Heists in the Dark deck can compliment the Duskwall Heist Deck. The Duskwall Heist Deck features people, treasures, and threats; those elements can be added to a heist generated by the Heists in the Dark deck, or add background to it. The structure of the Heists in the Dark deck can provide more ready-to-use guidance to heists inspired by the Duskwall Heist Deck.

Content for the Heists in the Dark deck is drawn from the game table and fiction of Andrew Shields. If you enjoy his Blades in the Dark novels, you can adapt characters to join the intrigues at your own game table, reinterpreted to fit your version of Duskwall.

Anyone have any advice or ideas on where to go to get this printed? I'm totally lost on how to get actual cards made. I've looked at some of the online sites but they have specific templates to use that doesnt fit with this PDF

This is a good compliment to the Duskwell Heist Deck. Has helped get scores going and to figure out things that other crews are doing. Any plans on releasing a printable version in color?

Ordered the deck and like it. Any chance you could offer Roll20 support with these? I would like to import the cards to VTT but it is a pita to cap them individually.

Are the ideas in this product different than what is found in Blade in the Dark Heist Deck, Print and Play?

PUBLISHER
Yes. It is a different format for assembling a heist, with all new people, places, heist objectives, and complications. You can design a heist by laying the cards out in a pattern. In addition, you can supplement a Heists in the Dark adventure with people, treasures, and challenges from the Duskwall deck, using them together.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
